Hair Straightener - The Unsurpassed Substitute

Hair straightener has now become the best option for the women to get rid of the curls, waves and frizz in their hair. Though there are a variety of tools and options that are available but none of these matches the efficiency of the latest tools and equipment that has proven to work wonders, effectively straightens even the most stubborn curls with any kind of hair.

Styling hair is as old as the early 20th century, when the tools were not as efficient as it is today. Earlier people had to undergo strenuous workout that included the use of hot irons heated on a stove to straighten their hair and it was a bit risky. But that too could be possible on long hair. Gradually with the flowing time hair straightening tools were improved and modernized and fortunately in this century we are enjoying the hair straightening products that have several alluring features designed to style our hair safely without a strenuous workout and the risk of scalding a sensitive scalp. In real sense it is considered a big improvement over the initial hair straightening tools.

Besides the functions and safety which are the two major benefits we get from good hair straightener, manufacturers also paid their attention on making the hair instrument simple, more convenient and portable. Unlike the old fashioned ones which we had to heat on the range top, modern hair styling appliances that are available today are to be compact that saves space and it gets heated electrically inside and so they provide electrical security. The heating system in today’s models of hair straightening is based on new technologies that uses ceramic plate to allow for the faster heating of the plates combined with smoothness to allow faster gliding through the hair. It is believed that smoother plates work to straighten the hair faster with less damage.

Use of ionizing or infrared technology helps to actually break down the hydrogen bonds in your hair to change its shape. So it is always said that not to use hair straightener too often because in the run of having a nice straight look for your hair but it may permanently weaken or damage hair in the long run. Whatever it is hair straightening tools that have evolved over time into highly effective and modern forms, still follows the older designs and ideas. Today it considered one of the unsurpassed substitutes for anyone looking to straighten their curly hair with a least investment of time and amount of risk to the structure of your hair. With its effectiveness hair straightener has now become the demand only for the beauty conscious women but also has become popular with the men too.

Sedu Hair Styles — Are They For Real?
 by: Perriann Rodriguez 7eb

16a4

As the editor for Hair Resources, I visit many beauty and hair related websites. Over the last year I have noticed a growing popularity of the search term Sedu Hair Styles and even more popularity of the Sedu Flat Irons.

So, I had to check out this growing trend to see what Sedu Hair Styles are all about. The original mission statement of the company Sedu Beauty, established in 1991, is to transform every Nonhairless female species on the planet into a Seductive beauty, Sedu for short. It turns out that they also have many male admirers.

The flat irons by Sedu are rated the best by consumers and are mentioned as being preferred by top hair stylists around the world. Okay, this has definitely got my attention now.

I went to the company website, over at www.sedubeauty.com and saw many pictures of before and after using the Sedu Flat Iron. The after pictures all showed silky smooth and noticeably shiny straight hair, as opposed to the before pictures that showed very curly, frizzy or downright unmanageable looking hair.

I do have to admit that I was a little skeptical after seeing the photos. I kept looking on the website for the little disclaimer that says ‘Results not typical….etc.’ that you always find in weight loss advertisements. But no such disclaimer can be found.

For review purposes, I ordered a 1-1/2 inch Sedu Ionic Flat Iron from one of the authorized sellers listed on the company website. The package arrived late one afternoon, just before I had to go pick up my daughters from school. I had only about 10 minutes to spare before I had to leave, but I was really anxious to try out this flat iron.

Here is an account of what happened next. My hair was freshly washed and dried, so I just put a small amount of Biosilk Silk Therapy that the company recommends you use before flat ironing. My hair is very thick and about shoulder length. I actually have to clip up most of my hair and start flat ironing from the bottom layer. With my old flat iron, it usually takes a good 15 minutes to iron my hair, with not all that great results.

Time Line:

3:10 p.m. I plug in the Sedu Ionic Flat Iron; put it on the hottest temperature

3:10 p.m. and 25 seconds later. The green light is blinking indicating that the iron is ready to use. I start with the bottom layer, gradually letting more hair down until I have run the flat iron over all my hair. With this iron you only have to pass it one time over your hair. With my old iron I had to run it thru several times to get good results. P.S. You definitely don’t want to touch your hair after running the flat iron over it. It is VERY HOT.

3:18 p.m. I’m done!!!!

My hair looks absolutely awesome. It is smooth and silky, just like in the pictures. And, it actually stayed that way for almost two whole days before I washed it again. Several people asked me the first day and the next day if I got my hair cut or just went to the salon.

Important factors to consider when flat ironing your hair on a regular or daily basis is the wear and tear it will produce on your hair, perhaps causing split ends or even damaging your hair. If you visit many hair related forums, damaged hair from flat ironing is a frequent topic.

Dennis Huang, the brand manager for the Sedu line, says that the Sedu Flat irons are made from Tourmaline, a precious stone. This stone was used because it generates up to 6 times more negative ions upon heating than traditional ceramic irons. The extra negative ions along with gentle far-infrared heat guarantee soft, smooth, frizz-free silky straight hair without heat damage. Also, Sedu’s patented ultra-smooth plates guarantee smooth straightening motion without pulling, snagging or breaking the hair.

Huang mentions that many flat irons on the market have very rough surfaces on the plates. He adds, ‘Most irons cause hair damage because essentially you are straightening your hair with a heated sand paper.’

Many hair stylists recommend using some sort of silicone based product on the hair before flat ironing in order to protect the hair. Sedu Beauty recommends Biosilk Silk Therapy and Sedu Heat Protectant. They also recommend using lower heat settings for different types of hair. If you have bleached, fragile, damaged or fine hairuse the lower temperature setting. If you have normal hair and use the iron regularly, use the middle range of temperatures and if you have coarse, thick, ethnic or resistant hair that is in a healthy condition you can use the maximum heat for best results.

In short, my conclusion, 8 minutes and a Sedu Ionic Flat Iron has made a huge difference in the way my hair looks and feels. It is THUMBS UP for Sedu Flat Irons from Hair Resources.

Now all I need is a weight loss product that works in 8 minutes!

Caring For Straightened Hair

Your straightened hair is much more delicate than your pretreated strands. To ensure your tresses remain healthy, you must do everything possible to shield them from harm. This means gentle treatment, vigilant conditioning, and perhaps giving up some of the things you used to do such as using straightening irons, back combing, or regular use of curling irons.

Careful handling

You probably already know that rough treatment damages your hair. You probably also know what rough treatment is: brushing wet hair, tight roller sets, overly vigorous shampooing, hair clips that snare strands, and many more methods of styling. If you’re new to this hair-coddling business, however, keep in mind that relaxed tresses are especially vulnerable to all kinds of stress, be it mechamcal or thermal. A good rule of thumb: If you have to ask yourself whether an activity is hard on hair, it probably is. Avoid harsh styling and leave your hair as natural as possible whenever you can.

Shampoos and conditioners for relaxed hair

If your hair is relaxed, you probably know first-hand the changes that have occurred in its texture, the way it feels in your hand, how it responds to styling products and so on. lt’s probably drier, less vibrant, more brittle, and much more easily prone to damage. For this reason, choose products that are labeled "for chemically treated hair" - or go a step farther and find shampoos and conditioners formulated specifically for relaxed tresses. These low-detergent, high-emollient products won’t rough up your delicate cuticle layer nor will they strip your hair of important natural oils. What they will do is infuse parched hair with moisture and create a protective barrier to help fragile strands withstand styling stress.

The right styling products

If you were using moisture-filled styling products before your relaxing treatment, keep on using them. In fact, you may even want to kick the conditioning up a notch and seek out products designed solely for chemically treated hair. Don’t go overboard though: Use too much conditioning oil, pomade, or styling wax and your hair will get grimy, forcing you to the shower for more frequent shampoos. Styling products to avoid? Go easy on dehydrating products such as sculpting lotion, gel, or alcohol based hair sprays. If your hair is in good shape prior to relaxing, but begins breaking heavily after the procedure, there’s a good chance that your strands weren’ t properly neutralized.

Heat styling

The less you do to your relaxed hair, the healthier it will be. This means that if you opt for a wash-and-wear look, your hair will be stronger and suffer from less breakage than if you blow-dry or use a straightening iron, a curling iron, or hot rollers. Occasional thermal styling is fine, but if you have to use heat several times a week, ask yourself this: Could it be that you’re not used to seeing yourself with relaxed waves? Or do you truly believe your hair looks unpresentable if it’s not blow-dried to a stick-straight state? If it’s the first, try wearing your hair in its postrelaxed waves and see if the look grows on you. If it doesn’t, ask your stylist for a good cut that works so well with your relaxed waves that you no longer think about forcing it straight.

The Price Of Beauty: Hair Straightening Costs
 by: Julia Brown 7eb

1141

With an onslaught of shampoo commercials on TV, featuring models with long, smooth and super straight tresses, it is no wonder that a big chunk of the women population want their hair to look impeccibly perfect. As a result, hair salons offering hair-straightening services continue to mushroom all over. Do-it-yourself hair treatments, hair ironing kits, and other various hair products are constantly being upgraded, with new and improved.

To say that there’s a great variety of hair-straightening methods and products to choose from is an understatement. Women find themselves in a dilemma on what would suit them, and bring out the best results. Among their major concerns is cost. When it comes to hair treatment, does price really matter? Will a more expensive process generate better results, or do cheaper ones suffice?

Factors to consider:

1. Hair Condition

Needless to say, more work translates to higher costs. The curlier the hair, the more expensive the salon treatment or hair product will be.

2. Treatment life span

One has to choose whether she wants her hair to be straight permanently or for a certain period only. While some women prefer to have hair a la Cher for their entire life, others love experimenting with various hairstyles - frizzy one day, super straight the next. A permanent treatment’s rate will of course be higher than a temporary one.

3. Maintenance

When one constantly takes good care of her hair, especially after undergoing a hair-straightening treatment, there will be less frequent salon visits necessary.

$$$$$: Chemically straightened treatment done by professionals in a salon

While there are hair straightening formulas readily available in the market, it is still recommended to leave the chemicals to the experts. The reason is simple: dealing with strong chemicals requires technical know-how of the entire hair straightening process. Also, professionals will be able to evaluate one’s hair condition to find out how strong the chemicals will be used, to avoid any damage.

$$$$: Hair ironing kit

While this hair tool is, of course, cheaper than a salon visit, it does not guarantee lasting results. Hair irons come in various types. Those using metal plates are usually the cheapest, but it is not recommended for regular use because its surface will cause hair damage in the long run. The ceramide hair iron is considered gentler and effective, but it comes with a higher price tag. Using ceramic plates, this kind of iron is smoother, which will result in better flattening of hair. It also has a better control in temperature, that will prevent burning and permanent hair damage. In buying a hair iron, make sure to test it before buying. Thoroughly read and follow the instructions included in the kit. When you regularly iron your hair, avoid using other chemical treatments, such as coloring dyes, because it might result in hair damage. It is also recommended to have a regular trim to prevent split ends from occurring.

$$$: Hair dryer

Amazingly, despite the emergence of newer hair straightening products, the good old hair dryer is still surviving, and in fact, still widely used. Perhaps among the cheapest of hair straightening products, the hair dryer still remains to be reliable in temporarily managing frizzy hair. Like the hair iron its results last only until the next wash. Before starting, make sure the hair is free of tangles by using a wide toothed comb. It should also be slightly moist. Use a large and round brush for better results. Setting lotion, gel or leave-on conditioner may also be applied after blowing the hair to eliminate frizz and achieve a smoother, silkier appearance.

Japanese Hair Straightening - The Way To Straighter Hair
 by: Andrea Simpson 7eb

11d3

Over the last 4 years a new type of hair straightening has crept into the USA. Called Japanese hair straightening it also falls under other names including; Thermal Reconditioning, Magic Straight, Bio Ionic Straightening, Yuko System (named after the Japanese stylist who is meant to have popularised the treatment), Liscio, and Rebonding. The Liscio process is the original and the one you are most likely to see in salons.

As the name suggests it originated in Japan and the process will give you permanently straight hair as opposed to the temporary straight hair provided by in-home straighteners like the excellent Sedu flat iron. In reality it lasts about 6 months when your hair will need re-touching because of the hair growth.

This form of treatment is not recommended for:

more delicate African hair

hair that has been heavily treated or damaged

hair that is quickly thinning and falling out

The treatment is very expensive, $300-$800 in top salons and depending on which process you opt for can take between 4-6 hours to complete. This is a far cry from using your own hair straightener at home for a fraction of the cost and only taking a matter of minutes. Given the cost you should expect a free consultation on how well (or if) the treatment will work on your hair.

As the treatment is very expensive you should do your homework. Here are a few tips:

Visit the websites of salons close to you for more details about which Japanese hair straightening treatment they use.

Visit the salon and speak with their straightening specialist about the process

Make sure the specialist has sufficient experience in the process. Don’t forget you are paying lots of money so you don’t want to end up with damaged hair because of an inexperienced stylist.

Ask for some ‘before and after’ pictures of previous customers results.

If possible ask to speak with a previous customer to get some detailed insight into how long it took and to find out if there are any things they didn’t like about the process.

If you do decide to go ahead with the treatment then here is a summary of the whole process.

A protein conditioner is applied to your hair.

A cream based thio relaxor is then applied. This will soften your hair and disassociate the sulfur bonds inside the hair shaft.

After a period of time the stylist will do a test to see if the hair has broken down to the right degree.

Once the proper amount of Sulfur bonds have been disassociated the stylist will rinse your hair.

Your hair is dried into the style you normally wear it in.

The stylist will take small sections and apply some degree of tension to get your hair as straight as possible.

Once the neutralizer has been on the hair for the proper amount of time it will be rinsed from the hair.

After the hair is rinsed it will be dried again and ironed into the style you wish to wear.

The neutralizing chemical only begins to re-associate the sulfur bonds. The hair still needs to absorb more oxygen and will do so naturally through the air.

The hair designer will instruct you not to shampoo, wet or style your hair for 24-72 hours, this is to allow it to completely neutralize into the current shape.

The results from the process are amazing, considering your hair is subjected to nearly 6 hours of chemical and heat treatment. You will probably be advised to use special after care products. You should take the stylists advice but make sure and shop round for the products online, as they can be very expensive in salons.

However, all the time and effort is worth it, as your hair will not need to be treated for at least 6 months. So twice a year should be enough for curl free hair all year.
